Wax Trax Gears Up for Record Store Day 2025

[DENVER, COLORADO]On Saturday, April 12 Colorado’s oldest and most wide-ranging record store, Wax Trax, is pulling out all the stops for Record Store Day at two of its three locations. There will be live music, turntable giveaways, highly anticipated vinyl releases, and free coffee and donuts.

“Every shop does their own version of Record Store Day, and we try to curate the best of what is pressed by the national folks while also highlighting a few artists in Denver’s music scene,” said Pete Stidman, co-owner and manager. “This year that includes producer Neon Brown spinning records at our Broadway Bazaar store and our own Rex Winnfield and Pink Lady Monster performing at 13th. Plus we’re shining a light on a Colorado-related RSD release of the Over the Edge soundtrack, a lovely little cult movie shot in Greeley, Colorado that got yanked from the theaters for fear of rioting teenagers in 1979. It’s also got a great soundtrack.”

In addition to Wax Trax’s typical renowned selection, both Wax Trax Broadway Bazaar and the historic Wax Trax in Capitol Hill will feature hundreds of limited RSD releases from artists like Charli XCX, Public Image Limited, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Joey Valence & Brae, Spillage Village, Remi Wolf, Wallows, Talking Heads, and more, as well as beginner turntable giveaways from Denver’s own Victrola. The 13th Avenue location will feature two excellent Denver acts, Rex Winnfield and Pink Lady Monster, and the Broadway location will feature the accomplished composer/producer/DJ Neon Brown on the wheels of steel.

Wax Trax Records (638 E 13th Ave) - Doors at 8AM

For the early birds, Wax Trax’s 47-year old location in Capitol Hill will open its doors at 8 AM, packed with an unbeatable selection of official Record Store Day releases and an exclusive used vinyl drop. Those who line up early will be treated to free donut bites and coffee courtesy of Jelly Cafe starting at 7 AM. The shop will be giving away a recently redesigned all-in-one Victrola Revolution Go turntable and collector’s case, giving a lucky winner a great setup to spin their new finds. Live music starts at 2PM with Rex Winnfield, followed by Pink Lady Monster at 3PM.

Rex Winnfield is a hip hop artist from Denver. He blends theatrics with high energy and infectious pop rap. This will be a one of a kind performance where he will be debuting a brand new EP before it’s released to the public later this spring.

Pink Lady Monster is a no wave band based in Denver. Their sound is born from experimentation, improv, and a never ending taste for the surreal and absurd aspects of life.

Wax Trax Broadway Bazaar (200 S Broadway) - Doors at 10AM

If you like to wake up late, Wax Trax Broadway Bazaar will open at 10 AM with a slightly more curated selection of RSD releases as well as a used record drop and rare deals on vintage clothes and accessories. There will also be a separate giveaway for a Victrola Revolution Go turntable and Collector’s Case. Wax Trax Broadway Bazaar, which includes a vintage clothing shop, opened on South Broadway in late 2023.

Neon Brown, hip-hop performer and producer based in Denver, will be gracing the shop with an all vinyl DJ set at 1pm.

Since its founding, Wax Trax has been a Capitol Hill gathering place for the city’s local music scene. Wax Trax Broadway Bazaar in the Baker neighborhood opened in November 2023. Wax Trax opened a third location in Stanley Marketplace in Aurora in November 2024 that is currently too small to host Record Store Day, but will have RSD releases later in the week. Wax Trax also operates a mobile mini shop that makes appearances all over the Front Range between May and October.

Vinyl sales continued to grow in 2024, and Record Store continues to be one of the biggest days of the year for vinyl sales at independent record stores, often breaking records for most vinyl sold in a single day. Record Store Day began in 2008 to bring awareness to independent record shops like Wax Trax.

Wax Trax Records is the oldest continuously operating record store in Colorado. Founded in 1975 by Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher (who later founded the label Wax Trax! in Chicago), it was bought by Dave Stidman and Duane Davis in 1978. During the pandemic in 2020, the second generation of family ownership took the helm when Pete Stidman (son of Dave) began managing the shop and eventually bought a majority stake. Today the shop is owned by Pete and Dave Stidman. Wax Trax boasts one of the widest and best selections of recorded music in the state.
