Wax Trax Records to Celebrate RSD Black Friday with Exclusive Releases, Artist Appearances, and Giveaways
[DENVER, COLORADO] - On Friday, November 29, Wax Trax Records is highlighting two releases with strong Denver connections for Record Store Day (RSD) Black Friday, The Elephant 6 Documentary Soundtrack LP and Denver-based Illenium’s Awake LP. These and a wide selection of other exclusive RSD Black Friday releases will be available at both the 46-year old Capitol Hill location where Illenium himself will be signing albums, and the 1-year old South Broadway location.
Wax Trax headquarters in Capitol Hill (638 E. 13th Ave) will open at 9am. This location will offer the largest selection of RSD Black Friday exclusive releases between the two shops, with limited-edition items going to the day’s first visitors. Guests can expect highly-anticipated releases from Thievery Corporation, Billie Eilish, Jungle, Olivia Rodrigo, Kacey Musgraves, and more. Attendees are encouraged to review the RSD Black Friday list ahead of time.
This location, as well as Wax Trax Broadway Bazaar, will be giving away a free Victrola Black Revolution GO turntable and a Collector Storage Case bundle. In-store attendees can sign up for the giveaway at the counter.
Wax Trax Cap Hill will also include a special appearance from Denver-resident EDM superstar Illenium, who will be signing reissued copies of his iconic sophomore album, AWAKE, from 2-4pm. Fans will be among the first to grab a reissue of AWAKE, available starting November 29, and meet and greet Illenium in person.
“We love to support all local musicians, even if they happen to be wicked popular,” said Pete Stidman, co-owner of Wax Trax Records. “And it’s really heartwarming also to see releases that include former-employees of Wax Trax.”
The Elephant 6 Documentary Soundtrack, which covers a phenomenal music scene that bridged Denver with Athens, Georgia, includes music from Apples in Stereo and Olivia Tremor Control. Both bands included at least one member who worked at the store at one time.
Staggering the opening time for late risers, Wax Trax Broadway Bazaar (200 S. Broadway) doors will be at 11am. There will be two 30 minute sets from emerging artist EZRAKH at 1pm and 2pm. Also at this location, guests can expect many of the same RSD Black Friday releases, with a slightly more curated selection. Along with the Victrola giveaway, the festivities will include discounts on vintage clothes.
Wax Trax Records is the oldest continuously operating record store in Colorado, operated by Dave Stidman and Duane Davis since 1978. Wax Trax also boasts one of the widest selections of vinyl records in the state. In 2021 the second generation of ownership took the helm when Pete Stidman (son of Dave) bought a majority stake.
